There’s a bit of chatter over a mystery sinkhole that swallowed a car parked beside a graveyard in Charlton, South East London in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Did the Zombies do it? Could be?
SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN BLOW-UP
Hole Zero is a short walk from Maryon Park where Michelangelo Antonioni filmed a key scene for his portrait of Swinging Sixties London. It is where David Hemmings’ photographer unknowingly snaps Vanessa Redgrave committing murder.
The area is part of the Charlton sandpits in a patch known as Hanging Wood which in its day was a hideout for highwaymen such as Dick Turpin.
It is also a short walk from Charlton House, a Jacobean mansion built around 1607-1612 which some argue is the most haunted house in England. The amorous spirit of Sir William Langhorne is said to walk the corridors. St Luke’s Church next door is the burial place of Spencer Perceval, the only British Prime Minister to have been assassinated.
