Never mind the fate of Jon Snow, actor Kit Harington managed to drop a few explosive revelations in an interview with Andrew Marr this morning (yes, you saw Marr in Doctor Who: Aliens of London and yes they do trust him to present real current affairs programmes).
In a web of intrigue worthy of Game of Thrones, Harington revealed that his ancestor on his mother’s side Robert Catesby was the mastermind behind the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. Catesby conspired to blow up James I but was identified by Guy Fawkes after he was arrested with barrels of explosive.
Catesby was killed after Holbeche House, Staffordshire was stormed by 200 armed men. But Harington had a further revelation: “When his head was marched past the Houses of Parliament on a pike, John Harington, on my father’s side, who was in the Houses of Parliament at the time, looked at him and is quoted as saying: ‘He’s an ugly fellow, isn’t he?’”
Harington also said he wouldn’t put it past George RR Martin to kill Jon Snow again. “He could die in episode five,” he said.
Harinton is currently dividing audiences with a bloody stage revival of Kit Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus.
