Madame Vastra’s favourite squeeze Jenny Flint has been resurrected as a deadly duo in the new Welsh language film Y Llyfrgell - The Library Suicides.
The belle of the Paternoster gang, Catrin Stewart kills it as she doubles up as Ana and Nan, the palindromic twins with a murderous thirst for revenge. No spoiler to say that Vastra would be tickled by that bath scene.
The Library Suicides is a twisted comedy, with labyrinthine mystery, which kicks off when the girls’ mother Elena Wdig, an acclaimed author, appears to take her own life. Filmed at The National Library of Wales in Aberyswyth, it was directed by Doctor Who regular Euros Lyn and written by Fflur Dafydd from her own novel. It is Lyn’s debut movie and makes claustrophobic use of the location.
The girls’ mum is played by Sharon Morgan who has appeared in Torchwood and Hinterland’s Dyfan Dwyfor also appears as a cocky nightwatchman.
If I have any complaint, Dru Masters soundtrack over does it with the Eighties synth, you almost expect Knight Rider to come rolling over the hills at some point.
And yes, it comes with subtitles ...
